About: Kettering General Hospital

What I liked

There is nothing to like about the peadiatric diabetes service it is just sadly poor.

What could be improved

The list is endless the peadiatric diabetes team needs a complete change of their services

Listen to the parent.

Stop the parent/child blame culture

Teach all parents and children to carb count.

Stop the fixation of lumpy sites.

Embrace new technologies such as insulin pumps and stop making ridiculous excuses why children can't have them

More psychology access

Staff need to update knowledge and move forward

A method to test hba1c at the clinic appointment

Consultant not to patronise

Anything else?

My only advice is leave this service , there is far better care out there. It's unbelievable that ngh can offer better advice and support but only be a few miles apart.

However Northamptonshire compared to other services around the country remains behind.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback. We are sorry that you were not happy with the service you received. The Paediatric Diabetes Service strives to provide a high quality service to the local children, young people and families with diabetes and welcomes feedback. The service has developed over the last few years and continues to evolve to ensure that it is providing a high quality service which is benchmarked against other services both locally as part of the East Midlands Network and nationally.

A number of service improvements have taken place such as availability of a Clinical Psychologist attached to the team. Plans for provision of HbA1c readings in clinic are in place and importantly over the last one year insulin pump schools are being run to provide patient education allowing appropriate patients to be on insulin pumps. We encourage families to carbohydrate count and are starting to run carbohydrate counting education sessions.

We have a full complement of Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses and are in the process of appointing a new Consultant with paediatric diabetes interest.

The Paediatric Diabetes Service wants to take on board all feedback from our service users and is continuously striving to provide an excellent service.

Dr Harsha Bilolikar

Consultant Paeditrician
