About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

What I liked

COPD. Emphysema. Early support discharge Scheme.

I cannot praise the Dewsbury district hospital enough for the excellent care and treatment I received when I was in the hospital just over 2 weeks ago. I was addmitted to the A&E on the 05/03/2012. with severe shortness of breath. I was on an appointment at my Doctors for a health check when I became very short of breath. The Doctor called an ambulance to take me to the hospital. I was not kept waiting for that long, befor the staff attended to me. I was kept in for 4 days. I had a chest x-ray and a ct scan, I was put on antiboitic tablets and steroids, also given oxygen and nebuliser treatment. I was then put into the care of the department of respiratory medicine. I suffer with emphysema copd a chronic lung disease. I was a heavy smoker for most of my life. I was in hospital for 4 days. Then I was put on the early support discharge scheme for patients with copd to get you home early it saves you a long stay in hospital, where you can be managed at home by the respiratory team who visit you at home every other day. I am now discharged form the scheme. If I have a problem with my breathing I can call them on a contact number or call the respiratory ward. I have the confidence knowing that I have the back up and help if I need it. I am in the hands of my GP now.

Many thanks to the respratory consultant and his team and also the ward sister and the nurses for looking after me.

What could be improved

I dont think you need to make any improvements, I received the very of best of treatment.

Anything else?

In my experience this hospital is the best in the area for treating COPD. The early support discharge scheme is a vital service to the area so please keep it going, I would be lost without it, incase I have to go into hospital againe.

I was given the best treatment and I was treated with respect and dignity when in hospital.
