"complete lack of dignity!"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital

What I liked

The surgeon was very nice and spoke me through everything he was the only one.

What could be improved

This was my first operation and I was 17 I was taken in with a pilenidal sinus and they expected me to sit down in the waiting room! I refused and after some grumbling from the nurses I was offered a bed where I was left for two hours. Because the affected area was my bum I requested a female this was ignored and I had a male doctor who was very rude who actually laughed at me when I told him what was wrong. I was then sent for emergancy surgery by this point I was crying with pain and wanted to keep my family members with me but I was told this was not allowed even though the woman opposite me had her husband with her and I wasn't allowed my mum. The woman opposite me constantly screamed and was irratating me and the other woman on the ward. When it came to me being seen by another doctor, I told him and the nurse I was very embrassed he said I could.wear paper knickers to help me feel dignified but minutes later he came back with about seven students and asked of they could look!! When it was time to go to theatre I was picked up by a man and asked where my paper knickers where and I was told they where a waste of time and I wouldn't be getting them and I was expected to swing my leg over on to a trolley with no knickers on infront of a man!! Thankfully he turned around. When I came around back on the ward after my op I wasn't allowed any pants on still and I asked for my curtains to be closed for my own dignity because people could see me walking past the ward as could the other women the nurses refused this and made me keep the curtains completly open. When it came to meals they where disgusting cold burnt toast and lukewarm soup when I asked the nurse if there was any diffrent soup as I don't like that flavour I was told no get back in to bed eat it or leave it!

Anything else?

The nurses really need to learn bedside manner!! The radio didn't work properly for me to listen to. Overall an aboustly horrendous experience. Dignity really needs to be installed in this place!
