What I liked

My wife came in to have a brain tumour removed. Sadly there were many complications and she spent a long period in the Neuro ITU/HDU ward. The staff there were very professional and the service was excellent in stark contrast to the rest of the hospital.

What could be improved

Apart from the ITU ward just about everything. The entire hospital seems to be designed for the benefit of the staff. On the first day my wife was transferred to Sahara B a nurse told me the place was in chaos and they couldn't cope. This may have been true but it's not the sort of thing you want the person looking after your loved one to tell you. I was kept in the dark about what was happening and lied to when asking direct questions. My wife was discharged way too early to get rehab and was sent back 2 days later. Because there was no room on the Neuro wards she went on a tour of the general wards. The treatment here was even worse. The nurses had no experience of her condition and treated her like she was an idiot. Her meals were left out of reach and were always uneaten when I came in. I had to feed her myself. The staff got surly and aggressive when I complained.

The doctors took no notice of my observations even though I spent more time with her than they did and knew her history. Six months later she had to return for another operation, which I had told them she needed at the time.

Anything else?

The aftercare has been just as bad. The primary concern seems to be to wash their hands of you and leave it to someone else. 16 months after the operation I am still fighting to get her some proper treatment. I was told she would be in hospital for about a week. I am still waiting for her to come home.

Please look elsewhere for treatment.
