"X-Ray Issue"

About: Garston Walk in Centre

(as the patient),

I injured my foot and tried to obtain an appointment with my G.P. The receptionist told me that there were no time slots available on that day  and I was advised to go to Garston Walk In Centre and my foot would be X-Rayed there. When I was there the nurse examined my foot and speculated that I had either broken or cracked  a metatarsal. However, I could not have an X-Ray because  it had not been authorized by my G.P.

The following day I visited my G.P. but had to wait for a telephone call. The doctor said that they would sent a form electronically to Garston Walk In Centre and I would receive an X-Ray. I asked if if it would be done there and then and it was confirmed that it would. Unfortunately, when I presented myself once more to the reception at Garston Walk In Centre I was told that I could not be X-Rayed on that day. I pointed out that I possibly had a fractured foot but it made no difference. It was suggested that I go to the York Centre and I was assured that I would receive an X-Ray there. This duly happened and I mentioned to the radiographer about my visits to Garston who said that I should have been X-Rayed because certain parts of the body, such as the foot, can be X-Rayed after  the examination. Now, where does the truth lie? Is it with the nurse at Garston or is it with the radiographer at York House? The upshot was that I spent the best part of two days hobbling from one place to another in considerable pain and not receiving the correct advice. I would be grateful if somebody could look into this matter and let me know what the precise procedure is.

thank you
