"I was sent home and not given any advice what to do"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I went to A&E last night worried because I could not remove a tampon. It was a wait of two and half hours before I was seen by first one then shortly afterwards a second junior doctor.  Neither of them were able to remove it, they  considered trying to get someone from the gynaecology team but decided that, because it was late, didn't think that anyone would be able to come to the A&E department. In the end I was told to go home, I wasn't given any advice on what to do, they just said they would not be worried unless the tampon was there for a couple of days.

This morning I went to see my GP as I was getting more and more concerned. My GP was very understanding, put me at my ease and was able to remove it without any problems.

Dear yankeecy59

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and share your recent experience. I am concerned to read that you were discharged from the department without any advice or resolution and would like to offer my sincere apologies for this.

I would like to discuss your concerns in more detail and would therefore be grateful if you could contact patient affairs on 01355 585325. I hope to hear from you.

Thank you again

Lise
