"Mobility assessment at home"

About: Bridgwater Community Hospital

(as a service user),

A month or two ago a young lady, Sue, came to assess my mobility at home. As a result she arranged for a commode, the toilet seat to be made higher, a waking frame and a tea trolley to be provided. My son now calls me the trolley dolly!

All of the equipment and changes have made a huge difference for me, I'm pleased with everything. The item I was most sceptical about was the tea trolley, provided to make it easier for me to get my meals from the kitchen to the dining table, not a long distance, but it has made it a lot easier. I can also use the trolley to move things from one room to another, eg when I'm changing the bedding I use it to take the clean bedding to the bedroom on the trolley.

I haven't ventured on the bus with the walking frame, I will do that when my daughter in law is with me to give me more confidence.

Hello,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely feedback. I'm so glad that things are working out for you and that you are finding the equipment suggestions useful. I will make sure this is shared with the team and especially Sue.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I think this is my favourite ever story! I love how you have described how useful everything has been: it's really helpful and I'm sure that other people will read this and feel inspired to try new things too.

Good luck with your first bus-trip with your walking frame: I hope all goes well and you are soon feeling confident enough to get out and about again.

Kind regards,

LUCY

Hello there,

How lovely of you to take the time to leave us this message - it has certainly brought a smile to our faces!

I have spoken directly to Sue to share with her your thoughtful comments and Sue wanted me to let you know that she was so pleased that you had let us know how things at home have improved for you since your meeting and Sue's equipment recommendations have been working for you.

Sue said that 'It is so nice when we get to hear things are going well. Our aim as a service is to enable people and promote independence with every day activities and it sounds like all the items that I suggested are doing just that for you, especially the kitchen trolley. I remember how sceptical you were and am glad that you gave it a try anyway. Please keep up your daily activities and your walking and who knows I may bump into you in town one day using your wheeled walker. I hope so and my favourite bit of your feed back was calling me “young” lady!'

Thank you so much and keep up the positivity.

Best wishes,

Emma
