"My mums failed discharge"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Clinical assessment unit

(as a relative),

GP sent my 88 yr old mum (former nurse) to hospital via AAC - she had suspected AF, pneumonia, breathlessness. DRs reassured her that she would not be sent home until infection cleared and breathlessness improved. Bed shortage meant she was discharged - without family consultation. Next morning I found her at home collapsed while trying to get water to take pills. GP called and sent back to FVH. Fluid on her lungs has increased, breathlessness is worse. She has been admitted but there are no beds - so she is still in CAU. Most staff members are caring and efficient but the stress is obviopus as some can be a little "brusk" and at times unkind. I would like to research the situation before making a formal complaint - what are the rules for discharging elderly patients?
