"The consultant spoke to me as if i am an idiot."

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Urology

(as a service user),

This afternoon I had a consultation with a urologist at NUH City Campus at the Urology Centre who belittled me and my symptoms, because most of the tests had shown nothing up. They suggested that the improvement I saw when taking antibiotics were due to the placebo effect, even though my urine shows signs of inflammation being present and some antibiotics had not brought an improvement. But when the consultant said something along the lines of I think I have more scientific knowledge than you, I had to respond with "I am a scientist". I have a science degree and a qualification in pharmacology, along with experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry. But regardless of that, I shouldn't have been spoken to as a silly little woman. The patient naturally can feel at a disadvantage in a hospital environment but should be treated with respect.
