My niece is currently being treated on Ward 33. The medical intervention, care and support that she has received in the past 6 weeks has been excellent at all levels. Staff work professionally and cheerfully, not only for the patients but also with family and friends. Their expertise, compassion and patience in getting to know new patients in a busy department with a high turnover is exemplary. Everyone in my family is extremely grateful to them during what has been a very worrying time.
It is a great pity, therefore, that accessing the hospital proves so difficult. Again today, traffic was queuing from Ansty Road with the short journey from the Red Lion pub taking 30 minutes or more. Once on the hospital site, the 'traffic management system' consists of several men in yellow jackets moving red and white cones backwards and forwards in a vain attempt to control the daily congestion. One of these men was almost run over by an irate motorist who ignored his instruction - apparently such incidents are happening frequently.
I note from earlier reviews that you are in discussions about remedying the current situation. Are you able to give any indication of what these solutions will be and when things might improve? Many of those queuing to access the hospital site are already stressed because of family illness or the need to arrive on time for medical appointments.
"Inside great, outside a nightmare!"
