"Discharge care."

About: Care and Support Service (South) University Hospital Hairmyres / Care of the Elderly (Wards 13-16)

(as a carer),

My mum was medically fit to leave hospital. But her care had been stopped. She is 83 and dad is 87. This was the first time in 60 years they had been apart at the bells. They were missing each other terribly. It looked like mum wouldn’t be getting home any time soon.

We were all upset, but it had hit mum and dad really hard as they had it in their minds mum was coming home today. Mum has dementia, so it was particularly hard for her to understand why she couldn’t come home. She thought that we didn’t want her any more.

In stepped Elaine and Bev, between them they have managed to get mums care started today. Same times, same staff. To say we are delighted is an understatement. A big thank you at all the staff at Hairmyres and in the social work department how played their part in getting mum home.

Dear Disneymad,

Thank you for the lovely feedback. We always try to put the patient and their family at the centre of our thoughts and care.

I am delighted to pass onto the teams how happy you all are with the result of a speedy discharge with the same staff too as continuity of care is so important.

Kind Regards

Gwen
