"After care failure"

About: Derriford Hospital

My son has recently had to have a major operation to repair a fistula. The care he received during and after the operation was superb but it was the aftercare which has left much to be desired. He had his operation on Friday the 16th of November but was then allowed to leave hospital on the following Monday. To be honest he wanted to leave as soon as possible but there was no follow up information about what expect after the operation. He has now gone through feelings of euphoria at finally having the operation but is now having to cope with depression and uncertainty about his future.

When I had my knees replaced I was given several leaflets explaining about the operation and its after effects which were really helpful to me at the time.

Please consider producing a leaflet to explain the procedures which can be given to all patients after their operations especially when patients have to be discharged quickly to allow for new patients to be admitted.
