"fractured mandible"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Accident and emergency Queen Victoria Hospital (East Grinstead) / Oral surgery

(as a service user),

I was assaulted and  was taken to the A&E and ESH.  After a three hour wait to see a Dr I was told that I'd a Fractured mandible. However I was told that it needed to be treaded else where.  I didn't mind this as I only live a 10 min drive from the Queen Victoria Hospital in east Grinstead.  I was shocked to find that I was being referred to Guildford for my treatment over and hour and a half from my home.  When I asked why I couldn't go to the QVH the Dr told me that  he was sorry but that the trust had decided that ESH were no longer going to send patients to the QVH.  What ever happened to choice.  Anyway, I chose to leave ESH and go home and walk into the MIU at the Queen Victoria the next day.  I was seen straight away by a nurse, admitted to the ward and in theatre by three in the afternoon and then home the next day.   I can't  understand why ESH have decided to stop the referral to the QVH

Dear benshaw

Thanks for the feedback. I am not certain why you could not go to QVH to see the maxillo-facial surgeons and will look into it.

I hope that you're feeling better.

Ben
