What I liked
My son visited the accident and emrgency department on saturday18/02/12 with a dislocated left index finger following a football injury, and he was seen almost sraight away. The dislocated finger was relocated and x rays taken not long after he was seen so he was not waiting around for a long time as he was in some pain.
What could be improved
instructions for booking fracture clinic appointment and basic first line treatment could be improved. The so called neighbour strapping left a lot to be desired as this was just one piece of tape around the top of his index and middle finger. No analgesia was offered as take home medicine or in the department.
My son is a student in lincoln and was coming home for the weekend following his injury on saturday. He told staff that he could not attend fracture clinic on monday 20/02/12 as he would not be returning to lincoln until 22/02/12. He was not given an appointment for fracture clinic and has had real difficulty getting through to the right department to book an appointment for fracture clinic so i have tried on his behalf today. When i eventually got though, there was no receptionist in fracture clinic, so i was asked by the very helpful staff nurse to call back for an appointment later today. Something so simple has been made so difficult and time consuming.
