"Terrible treatment"

About: Basildon University Hospital

Terrible treatment, I attended AnE nearly a month ago 22nd November with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon. I was put in a cast and told to go home and ring up the next day for an appointment (I attended at night)

1 week later and I heard nothing, I called the fracture clinic to be told “you have already missed an appointment” apparently i didn’t turn up, well it would have been nice to be told. I was then told to come on the 11th of December. I turned up to thbe fracture clinic, booked in for my 12:30 appointment.....

Waited and waited, basically I was forgotten about! I had to ask the receptionist what was going on and she went off to ask, I was the only person left in the waiting area from when I arrived.

I was called to only be given a ticket to go back out to have my cast removed, for a dr to see me.

I was told after the dr spent literally 5mins with me and said “I don’t think it’s a full rupture you won’t need surgery) to go home and come back for an ultrasound on the tendon on the 15th and the consultant said come back to see me straight after that, just go to reception and tell them Iv had my scan and wait to be seen.

Well the 15th came and at 14:30 I went to ultrasound, the nurse who I presume is there to assist patients did not help one bit! Told me to take my boot off myself and my sock and for me to lay on my front. (Please help me as Iv been in a cast for a month!)

After the scan the dr said “you will need surgery it’s a total rupture” go back to fracture and go and see the consultant is what I was told!

I got to fracture, guess what? It's shut on the weekends!!!

The doctors don’t even know what’s going on!

I called first thing Monday morning, to find out what an earth is happening with my treatment to be told “you have an appointment on the 14th of January 2019!!!!! To be seen b a consultant about the results of the scan!!!! So nearly 2 months wait for a diagnosis.

Absolute disgrace. The assistants in the fracture clinic where great, friendly and approachable. The nurse in the ultrasound, did not help one bit and just said to the dr “I thought drs only shop in Posh shops” didn’t help with taking the crutches away, didn’t help me take my aircast off or sock, disgusting. The dr wasn’t even listening to me as I was asking him questions and ignoring me replying with a “hmm”

I work for an emergency service myself so I understand pressures and strains brought on by cuts etc, however this is basic service achieved by basic communications.

I am looking to be transferred for my own peace of mind but it needs to be addressed.
