"Disappointing service time and time again!"

About: Chorlton Family Practice

Ever since we came to this surgery around 5 years ago and they managed to lose all of my husband’s medical records/history, I have been largely unhappy with the service they provide. The reception staff always appear unsympathetic.. If you want to book an appointment in advance, it’s usually (miniumum) a month away. If there’s something you really need to see a doctor about, but they don’t class it as so important you need to be seen that day, you have to wait a really long time. Longer if you want to see someone specific or a female doctor. My mother in law’s prescriptions are routinely incorrect. I know someone who was given a dangerously wrong dosage of medication for a baby on prescription - luckily she is a pharmacist and spotted the error herself. Most recently I booked for a smear test which I was told was due in November. When I arrived there was a used needle on the floor of the nurse’s room which, when I pointed it out, she tutted and picked it up with her bare hands. She then refused to perform the smear even though it was due as I didn’t have a letter. She said if she did it it would just get “thrown in the bin”. Today I’ve been offered a GP appointment for 4 weeks time. My husband ended up having to private for a colonoscopy after battling to get a referral and having his appointments cancelled time and time again. Lucky he did as it turned out he had some pre cancerous polyps. I’m just so disappointed and fed up! If you’re looking for a practice in the Chorlton area you’d probably be best going elsewhere.

Thank you for your comments which are fed back to our staff during our staff meeting. I'm sorry but I am unable to contact you as you haven't raised these issues directly with the Practice. I am unaware of any clinical records that have gone missing although we do store all our old historical (non computerised) documents off site, these will have been summarised onto your husbands records. Our current GP waiting time is 12 working days, this is the longest it's been in the last 12mths although I do accept if you wish to see a particular GP this may be longer as some GPs only work part time. Our waits are not helped by patients who fail to attend, and lots of clinical time is lost this way. All our referrals are done within current NHS guidelines so I'm unsure why if there was a need we wouldn't have referred your husband. If you contact us directly we can discuss all the issues you raise.
