"Apart from the wait, the service was very..."

About: Leighton Hospital

What I liked

I found the whole service from seeing my GP to having the surgery done, very efficient.

I was initially admitted to The Treatment Centre, which I was very impressed with. The staff there were very helpful, although I had to wait a few hours, the treatment I received was excellent. I had a Scarf and Aiken Osteotomy on my left foot and the surgeon who performed the operation made an excellent job of it and the whole big toe is very straight and the scar is extremely neat. I have already recommended him to friends who may need the same procedure.

I was very impressed I actually saw the surgeon, who peformed the operation, when I came back for my 6 week follow-up appointment. I'm making a good recovery and will definitely come back to Leighton Hospital to have my right foot done at a later date and hopefully have the same surgeon.

What could be improved

The only criticism I have is that I was asked to arrive at The Treatment Centre at 11.00 a.m., but, didn't go to the Orthopaedic theatre in the main hospital until 3.30 p.m., which I felt was quite a long time to wait and didn't leave The Treatment Centre until around 7.00 p.m. I was very dehydrated, as couldn't drink any water after 9.00 a.m. that day.

Many thanks for your comments which are much appreciated. I have forwarded your comments to the orthopaedic team and treatment centre staff.

I apologise for the delays you experienced in the treatment centre. I would like to reassure you that we have a plan in the future to stagger admissions through the treatment centre following re-design of specific surgical pathways, which is part of the current Theatre re-build project.

Best wishes

Sally Mann, Divisional Lead Nurse, Surgery & Cancer Divsion
