Mum admitted to hospital two and a half weeks ago, though the initial wait of 7 hrs in A&E was painfully long, my mums treatment was excellent on AMU side B and then into ward C11. Lovely nurses yet scarily under staffed it seemed. Everything I asked for for my mum re different services while in hospital was handled promptly. I was very impressed.
Mum then transferred to Burnley where again mums treatment was excellent on Ward 19 in the Victoria wing.
Sadly on the 30th November mum had outpatient appointment back at Blackburn where we discovered mum had a terminal illness. Again staff excellent including lady on the desk at the ambulance departure lounge. Because of diagnosis mum was demanding to be discharged from Burnley and the lovely Ward manager facilitated that. They put plans in place for mum to be home with a team of care and help.
Mum was only home 30 odd hours when we had to call for ambulance and we were blue lighted to Blackburn. Straight in to resuscitation and on my mum attempting to turn around her extremely ill state. The doctors and nurses were incredible yet sadly my mum lost the battle. I was overwhelmed by the very compassionate nurses in my most desperate time.
A million thanks to all involved at various sites I'll never forget it. My only criticism is wait times in A&E and witnessing patients and their families on corridors-very distressing for them and me on exiting the department when my mum had passed. Also the smoke free signs outside yet people and patients hooked up to tubes and in wheelchairs smoking at the main entrance is quite appalling to witness. Again though the reason I leave is a review is the excellent way my mother was cared for in Blackburn and Burnley hospitals.
