"Ridiculous phone system"

About: Adult community health services / Musculoskeletal physiotherapy service

(as a service user),

I have been trying for a week to get a physiotherapy appointment at South Petherton, all I've got is all our lines are busy, please call back later. It's ridiculous.

I've had two physiotherapy sessions so far which have both really helped, on the last one they gave me a six week open appointment. It was mostly ok at the start, but its started to get worse so I need to go back in and see the physiotherapist again, and before the open appointment runs out and I get removed from the list - at Christmas. I will probably need an injection as well, but the physio is exactly the person to talk to to get that referral.

I've been phoning the booking office in Chard all week, and I keep getting the same 'lines busy' response. Its really not very user friendly. I work full time for the partnership, and I've had to use my own incoming line constantly to be in the phone queue, really not very productive for my own work. If they just had an email or something, I could leave a message and explain.

I don't know what else to do, if I call the GP I will just end up back with another referral. I know that my physio works mainly at South Petherton, maybe I should try and leave a message with the girls there and see if I can organise it with him directly. I don't know if it'll work, but the current system doesn't seem to either.

This morning was the worst, though. I rang through and it told me I was 8th in the queue, then 7th, then 6th, 5th... after 1st it said all our lines are busy, please call later. Ridiculous. I guess the next step is to ring PALS.

Hello there,

So sorry to hear that you have been having such a frustrating time trying to get in contact with our MSK physiotherapy services. It's good to hear that you have found your appointments so far beneficial and helpful but not good to hear that when you need to contact us, you have been having some trouble.

We are currently experiencing very high levels of staff sickness within our physiotherapy booking team which means that we are not getting to the calls in a timely way and completely understand that this is causing you concern and angst.

We are doing everything we can to source additional resources to support the team at this challenging time so please do keep trying the number. Alternatively, if you are still having problems, please call the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01278 432022 - you can leave a message or speak to them and they will get in touch with the service for you.

Please do let us know if you are still having challenges.

Best wishes,

Emma
