What I liked
My 19 year old daughter was admitted to ward 8 as an emergency, where various tests were done throughout the day. Staff had to put up with quite a bit of unnecessary abuse, from people who thought they were a priority. The ward was clean, and I was allowed to stay as long as I wanted.
Staff were pleasant despite being extremely busy and once test results were complete my daughter was sent to ward 5, where she was once again assessed and any necessary treatment provided. There seemed to be an awful lot of student nurses and very few fully qualified nurses on duty at the time, but they again were very professional.
What could be improved
More communication between patient and staff and families. If you didn't ask you didn't get to know.
I didn't get a phone call to say my daughter was being discharged and only found out when I came in at visiting time to find out she was in the discharge lounge.
Anything else?
Car parking prices are disgusting. I am a blue badge holder, but because I choose to work part time and not claim benefits, I was penalised by the change in policy regarding blue badge holders. 3 visits to the hospital left me out of pocket by more than £10. The people who make these decisions should hang their heads in shame.
"Recommended -apart from car parking prices!"
