What I liked
Our second son was born yesterday in a standard, though totally adequate room by such an incredible team of professionals who made everything totally clear from start to finish. The complications that my wife had were reassuringly addressed by both shifts that cared for my wife and new baby. We were treated in the labour ward as if this was a very special life occasion for us and not a conveyor belt (which I imagine it must feel like doing that job). Student trainee staff were totally empowered by their mentors each shift, and although not everyone's choice to have them in the room, we were pleased we had chosen to have a student with us for they offered reassurances and were totally attentive.
I hope the other 5 births (that had the same excellent team) successfully delivered yesterday have also written comments here, though I imagine they have not, just bare that in mind when using these comments to make your decisions...
What could be improved
I guess the maternity ward (one floor down from the labour ward) were a lot less attentive, and we spent a lot of time waiting to be discharged... However, I probably noticed this more, because as the man at a birth.. I was absolutely starving and all I could think about was getting my wife and new baby home. All the professionals who checked the baby were totally professional...
