About: King's Mill Hospital

What I liked

Attended A&E after I cut into my thumb with a saw (severing the tendon). About 1 hour wait before being seen which I didn't think was bad considering there was at least a dozen people in there. A couple more hours during which the wound was 'explored' and the consultant called. Patched up and sent home with instructions to come back the next day for surgery.

Back the next day at 7am. About 8 hours wait before I went for surgery which was a little tedious but understandable as they would've had to fit me in around the scheduled surgeries.

Woke up and taken to the ward (ward 10 I think) and given a cup of tea which was very welcome! Ward could easily have held 6 beds but there were only 4 so very spacious.

Kept in for the night but woken every hour for blood pressure\antibiotics\painkillers etc so not much sleep but that is par for the course after a general anaesthetic I suppose....

Released the next afternoon after being seen by the surgeon. Plenty of cups of tea which was nice, only had cereal and a sandwich food wise so can't really comment on that.

Have been back about 8 times for checkup and physio.

It's the first time I have been to hospital for about 30 years and I must say it has been a totally positive experience. All the staff I have come into contact with have been absolutely amazing and I can't thank them enough.

What could be improved

Struggling to find any real negatives but if I had to be picky I would moan about the blinds on the ward - the ward overlooked an open internal space (over the cafe I think) that had lights on all the time...thin blinds meant it was a bit bright for me (my bed was next to the window)
