"Frustrating"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Neurology

I have been seeing my Dr. here for the last 10 years or so now and whilst I was still at school, whenever I had problems it always got sorted quickly and was happy with everything. From the age of 19 it has just gone downhill with everything.

Calling the department (3 times a day), getting replies from left messages, test results, etc are all terrible and takes about 2 weeks to get in contact with my Dr. I have made a complaint on this before and was good for 2 weeks but is back to being terrible again.

Over the last 18 months I've been having bad seizures and bad side effects but nothing has been helped and this has had such a big affect on my life and have had to stop doing a lot of things in my life. I've been told that my problems are being caused by the medication dosages but after all this time it's been changed and I'm told that it is another form of the epilepsy other than just seizures.

I understand that these problems can't always be fixed the next day but nothing different has been tried other than using the same medication but changing the dosages but not having any sort of affect.

It feels that this department isn't caring and feels like they don't understand/realize how much this affects my whole life and is why it is really frustrating that it takes so long to make any contact with anyone and frustrating that the same thing has been tried over and over again but not helped once.

We are very sorry to hear of the problems you have had with the neurology department and can only apologise for the poor experience.

Please do contact our PALS team (patient advice and liaison service) for assistance and they can escalate your concerns and put you in touch with the relevant member of staff who will be able to help. The PALS team can be contacted on 01634 825004 or medwayft.pals@nhs.net

They will need to know your name and date of birth to be able to assist you.

Kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team
