I was admitted on Bonfire night with severe chest and abdominal pains.
After my statutory time in A&E - where I was well looked after and subject to some immediate checks - I was admitted to AMU. The chest pain had subsided to my abdomen and a reasonable diagnosis, backed by x-ray and scans, indicated pancreatitis and infection of internal organs. I received excellent care and diligent doctoring. From then on I was bombarded with antibiotics - with a move to another bay of AMU when the roof started leaking! By the end of my first week I was found a bed on A! and came under the care of the Gastrointestinal team.
The scanning, the antibiotics and the search for the elusive mystery infection continued, as did the excellent nursing care.
Towards the end of my second week I was sent to Endoscopy to have a small stent fitted into my bile ducts to improve my digestive system and then discharged.
My thanks go to all who cared for me and who persisted in getting to grips with my infection.
I came out feeling so much better.
My only small gripe was the amount of time spent waiting for the pharmacy to deliver on the afternoon of my discharge.- a system that is wasteful of people's time. Thank you to Stepping Hill for restoring me to health (again!)
