"Waiting times for dental surgery"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

(as the patient),

My local NHS dentist referred me to the NDDH/Maxillo-Facial Dept. for the "surgical extraction" of my UR3 tooth early in October.  This came about as the tooth had broken off a gum level during the local attempt at extraction, and no further progress could be made at that point due to "lack of appropriate equipment".  Since that time I have been unable to eat any food requiring chewing as it is too painful to wear the supplied denture despite "re-lining" and "adjustment" attempts by the local dentist.  It is now the end of November, and I am told by this Hospital Dept. that it is likely I shall have to wait at least another month before the procedure!  I was also told that there were 4 consultants and 3 Registrars in this department.  I consider the long waiting time to be excessive and requiring urgent investigation by the appropriate authorities.

Dear Patient

I was very sorry to learn you are experiencing difficulties with the service following the attempted extraction of your tooth.

In order for us to look into your case in more detail I would be very grateful if you would please email the Patient Advice and Liaison service ( PALS) at ndht.pals@nhs.net - as we require your NHS number and DOB to be able to respond to your specific concerns.

Many thanks
