"Care before during and after labour"

About: Kettering General Hospital / Maternity

I had my daughter 14 months ago at the Rockingham wing maternity unit. The care before labour and during induction was fantastic. However, on the 14th of september last year I woke up at 6.30am with contractiins and found I was bleeding heavily. I was assessed by a midwife and rushed down to labour ward 30 minutes later. During my labour I overheard the Doctor say that the placenta had ruptured and I should've been scanned and rushed for an Emergency Ceasarien but as I was already pushing they could not do it even though my daughters life was at risk. I cannot fault how quickly the staff realised the situation and prepped me for assisted delivery which did not happen as she came just as they were getting everything ready and they had a peadiatrition and SCUBU staff on standby. Luckily my daughter was fine but this has affected me so badly I'm considering not having anymore children. I also had sepsis and was just about to be discharged when my blood cultures came back. Again I cannot fault the care given to me then and how quickly staff realised it was serious and pumped me with fluids and antibiotics which worked immediatly. I'd also like to comment that during my stay I was never pressured to breast feed and I was given the respect and dignity I eould expect for bottle feeding my daughter and I would like to say that the staff did check on me wheb I was bottle feeding to make sure I was ok.

I would also like to say the quickness of having a CT Scan done was fantastic to find out what was going on with my iron levels and the decision to give ne a blood transfusion was a good one as my iron levels stabilised shortly after.

I did not like however that sone midwives told me I was going home when I had sepsis and needed to have IV antibiotics whic resulted in me telling the midwife in charge of my care that I didn't want to be told I was going home unless discharge papers were being given to me. I was never told how I could find out what went wrong during my labour and I am very disappointed with this. This was my first and possibly only child because of my labour experience.

Good morning,

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this feedback. I am delighted that, overall, you were very satisfied with your care during your stay with us. It would seem however, that there are some aspects of your care that need further discussion and explanation.

We have a team of Midwifery Advocates who offer a birth reflection service when this is required. Please contact the Team at midwiferyadvocates@kgh.nhs.uk to arrange a convenient time to meet.

Alternatively you can contact me on the number below and I will arrange this for you.

Kind regards
