"Fantastic hand surgery"

About: Duchy Hospital

(as a service user),

I was reviewed by a consultant surgeon within a matter of a few weeks from my NHS GP referral for NHS treatment, the appointment was on time, my surgeon was very welcoming and knowledgeable, he gave me lots of confidence in his ability to help me.

We had a discussion on possible treatment options with no pressure placed on me, when we agreed that surgery was the best option my surgery date was scheduled for approximately 3 weeks time. When this day came I was treated with dignity and respect at all times, having hand surgery I was only required to clean my hand and place on a clean disposable outer cover over my regular clothes and remove my shoes for inside the operating room, where further sterile drapes were used.

I was encouraged to ask questions whenever I felt the need and staff communication was excellent from reception to theater staff. Compared to other local NHS hospital treatment this hospital was amazing. As a patient with a non-related chronic illness that requires specialist treatment other hospitals have often made the circumstances and practicalities of surgery difficult for me, but here nothing was a problem. At all times I felt that I was treated well but with minimum fuss required. While I was somewhat apprehensive at having more surgery after the past bad experience at other hospitals, I felt very safe and reassured here. I had the surgery, recovered with a cup of tea and was out going home within about 2 hours of arriving. A fantastic hospital with really great staff, I wish all hospitals could be like this!
