What I liked
The nursing staff in the surgical admission lounge were excellent. I was kept informed at all times, treated with respect and more importantly all the staff were happy and friendly at all times even though the unit was extremely busy due to some delays in theatres. I have nothing but praise for my surgeon and the recovery team but this unfortunately is where my praise ends. After my surgery I was transfered to the surgical short stay ward. A few of hours after surgery I asked to be taken to the toilet- 4 hrs later I was still waiting after another request in between this period. I requested an extra blanket, for this I waited 50 mins despite the nurse of the ward going to get one for another patient in the same room who also requested one at the same time and I was given no call bell despite having had 4 hrs of surgery and being attatched to a PCA machine. Not one of the nursing team asked whether I was ok and as soon as I told them I also suffered from an eating disorder was treated like a 2nd class citizen and made to feel as though I wasnt entitled to treatment or their care. Anorexia is an illness, however it presents itself, it is not something that I choose to have and shouldnt of affected my care from the nursing team on this ward. I hope I never have to recieve treatment on this ward again.
What could be improved
Basic nursing care on the short stay surgical ward
"1st class surgeon and surgical team, but ward..."
