"Inconsistent levels of caring"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

What I liked

Ward 18 was clean and kept clean throughout my four day stay.

The night staff were excellent, very caring and compassionate.

What could be improved

I found that when I rang my bell, usually to ask for pain relief following a hysterectomy, I waited for at least 20 minutes before anyone came. Despite saying that you were to press the bell if you needed to, some of the staff made me feel that it was a bit of a chore sorting me out. I was no where near as demanding as some of the other ladies on the ward , especially one who was prone to calling out for the nurse during the night.

On my first painful venture to the toilet, I found a full bedpan in it and tried to attract someones attention to move it but again this took at least 10 minutes. I do appreciate how busy the staff are but surely patient care should come first?

I was discharged without a sick note for work or any painkillers - is this normal practice now?
