"My recent stay in hospital"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care

(as a service user),

I had an emergency admission initially to Ayr Hospital and then was transferred to 3E Crosshouse Hospital.

Everyone in the Multidisciplinary team were brilliant , their experience and confidence helped me through a scary and emotional illness.

Everyone worked well together as a team with the patient and family at the focus of care.

The only issue I have was the length of wait for a discharge prescription, I waited 5 hours for my medication from pharmacy. This was not a complex discharge, it only included one item. I understand the Pharmacy is busy but a 5 hour wait is unacceptable.

Dear Patient 10,

Being admitted to hospital with a stroke must have been a real 'scary' time for you. It is great to hear that everyone in the team supported you and your family at this difficult time. A team approach is key and the team will be delighted to read your feedback.

I am sorry that it took so long for you to be discharged home waiting for your medication. This involves the whole team from nursing staff, medical staff and OUR pharmacy colleagues. We aim to get the discharge prescription sent to pharmacy as soon as a decision has been made for home. I would be happy to look at this to identify if there is anything as a team we could do to improve. I can be contacted on 01563 825904 or email Christine.somerville@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks very much for taking the time to post on care opinion and for your lovely comments. Hope you are now recovering well.

Kind Regards,

Christine

Dear Patient 10,

I’m sorry to hear that you were delayed waiting for your discharge medicines. Five hours is a long time to wait and I appreciate it is disappointing when you are champing at the bit to get home. While the pharmacy team works hard to process prescriptions as safely and efficiently as possible, we are always keen to improve where we can, so I would be keen to look into what happened with your prescription. If you could contact me directly on 01563 826070 or by email at - roisin.kavanagh@aapct.scot.nhs.uk I can look into this”.

Best wishes,

Roisin.
