"Doctor"

About: Rochdale Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I visited Rochdale’s urgent care on Friday 23rd November at 12 midnight with a chest infection which had caused laboured breathing, chest pain and neck stiffness. I found the on-call doctor to be passive aggressive and condescending. He gave the perception he carried the illnesses of the world on his shoulders and exuded an over brimming sense of self-importance. I basically performed the cardinal sin of nodding off in the waiting room at now 1 am due to 2 days of sleepless nights and working long hours during the day which obviously equates to having good health and is tantamount to wasting his time.

In a nutshell he checked me over (and I use that phrase rather generously), muttered my symptoms were the “same” which he did not care to elaborate on, insinuated said new symptoms were a fallacy, challenged me on why I was not taking paracetamol along with the amoxicillin already prescribed (well, because I had not been told to but apparently it’s common sense), turned on his heels and with that was gone.

I think he feels I came in for the warm, meanwhile, I feel he requires patient customer service training and to drop the Messiah complex.

It was an awful and demoralising experience. I think I shall stick to patiently waiting at home for my chest infection to develop into pneumonia...
