"An Appointment"

About: Stirling Community Hospital

(as the patient),

On Wednesday I went into Stirling Health and Care Village for an UltraSound scan due to severe pain I get from my cycle. I felt that the nurse that did my scan was extremely patronising. Saying things for example like aw they get bad sometimes don’t they, and have I tried pain medication, among other things.

It felt like they were brushing off my pain and making out like I’m being over dramatic or no different to anyone else’s pain. I felt extremely patronised and let down. I know the difference between my normal pain and the excruciating pain I get ever other month, I literally cannot do anything. I sometimes even pass out the pain is that sore, it genuinely feels like I’ve been stabbed when it happens and absolutely no pain medication or water bottle helps it.

I’m sure this nurse was perhaps trying to make me feel better about the situation but in fact did the complete opposite and made it seem like they thought I was making it up. I’m writing this feedback as I wouldn’t want anyone else to feel the way I did leaving that appointment. I love the NHS and what you do but please feed this back, what you say and how you say it can have a huge impact please take everyone who comes into you, no matter what for seriously. - Thank you

Dear R0x89991

Many thanks for taking the time to get in touch to leave feedback about your experience, I was saddened to hear that you felt that you were not being taken seriously and felt that the member of staff was being patronising. This is not how we want patients to feel when they come to hospital. It is important that our patients are made to feel welcome and are treated with the highest level of person centered care, please accept my apologies that you have not been looked after in this way.

I would like to assure you I have shared your story with the team, who were also very disappointed to hear of your experience. Sharing your feedback with team has given them the opportunity to talk about your experience and take steps to ensure that patients are not made to feel like this.

I would would be more than happy to discuss your experience further, if you would like to get in touch with me you can contact me on 01324 566523 or alternatively you can email me on pauline.donnelly1@nhs.net

Kindest regards

Pauline
