"Attitude by the staff and no help"

I’ve been very poorly with mental health to the point of suicide a few times. Involved with the police cause of my mental health etc. And they tell me they can not help me at all. I called to ask why can’t they help me, and the most disgusting attitude I’ve ever had on the phone. Like they do not care. “Go back to your doctors and get re-referred then, nowt I can do, I ain’t a nurse.” Absolutely disgusting how they treat people with mental health. Make it out like they are there and people out there to help! Clearly not, and get treated and spoken to like where not worthy! No wonder so many people take their own life’s cause we have people who are meant to help us and help us get better treating us horribly. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

Hi

I'm really sorry to hear of what sounds like a negative and unhelpful experience when you contacted the Community mental health team.

I have spoken to the team lead regarding your feedback and they reiterated that the process in place is that when a service user contacts the service but is no longer under their care they will routinely advise them to see their G.P to be re referred initially or if in crisis to seek support from out of hours services or crisis services.

The expectation is that this message should be conveyed in a kind and supportive manner and staff are trained to engage service users in a therapeutic way so that they feel listened to and valued.

We do aim to deliver care of the highest quality to service users within the community around us so all experiences shared with us help us to learn and improve.

Your feedback has been shared directly with the team and they are saddened that your experience wasn't of the standard expected; and they would welcome a conversation with you them to understand this situation further. Please call the PALS team on 0800 052 5790 and they will support you to speak to a clinical lead or team manager in the appropriate community mental health team.

With kind regards
