"Menu looks interesting but the food left a lot to be desired"

About: Southern General Hospital

(as the patient),

I was in hospital for two weeks and in my opinion the food was terrible. 90% of the food was either over cooked or just looked like stodge. How can you go wrong with macaroni cheese? It was a dollop of stodge in the middle of the plate. Fish and chips I was served were solid and dried out, same with baked beans, just a lump on the plate all stuck together and no sauce.

The choice of the menu sounds great and really interesting, but as soon as I saw it on my plate it looked awful.

we are in hospital to get better how on earth can that happen when the food served up to you looks totally inedible? If you did not fancy anything cooked on the menu you got offered a sandwich, the choice usually consisted of egg mayo chicken mayo tuna mayo and if you dont like mayo or are not allowed to eat it you had the choice of a ham or beef or cheese sandwich, not bad you say sounds good you think. but.... they were two pieces of bread with a wafer thin bit of meat or cheese, NO butter or marg just dry bread and as i say wafer thin meat.

Come on surely you can do better than this. These are only a few of my complaints. It seemed to me that everyone in the ward was asking visitors to bring food in for them, What happens to the poor souls who didn't like the food and do not have visitors?

Very many thanks for your remarks about the catering service, I am very sorry that the food offered did not live up to the menu choices.

I have passed your comments on to the appropriate manager who will ensure that this is followed through locally.

Without further details it is difficult to comment further, but please rest assured that these comments will be taken forward in order to identify any further improvements we need to make. We appreciate that food is a central part of any patients daily routine, and I am sorry that it was a disappointment to you.

Paul
