"Absolutely Dreadful"

About: Emersons Green Medical Centre

Unforrunately this practice has suffered because of the huge increase in housing in the area. There should have always been two surgeries, when the site was planned. But, instead one of the Doctor’s closed his practice, and borough to half of

Downend with him. 15 years on, it’s the area is huge, and the surgery is a joke.

They promise on the day, emergency appointments. But, the reality of it is often a telephone triage. If you want to book an appoint, not feeling that it’s urgent you can wait 4 or 5 weeks, and much worse if you ask for certain Doctors. Whilst I might not feel that my chronic health problems are an emergency, I don’t expect and shouldn’t have to wait that long to ask for help with pain management.

One of the Doctors is so incredibly rude, he refused to issue a replacement prescription for a pain med that I had been taking for a number of years. He basically accused me of being a junkie, and insisted that I wouldn’t get another prescription until went to the pain clinic at the hospital (current wait months). It was only when he realised that junkie or not, my meds must be tapered to avoid severe withdrawal that he gave in. The same Dxtor has been rude to other members of my family on several occasions, and I know many people like us who now refuse to be seen by him.

The reception staff, on the whole are good I don’t envy them. It has to be a very difficult job, with such limited resources e.g Doctors, married with frustrated and angry patients. One lady is very rude and apricot but sh is th exception rather than the rule.

They always make mistakes with prescriptions, send them off without a signature, loose them, just forget to do them etc Plus there is a ridiculous wait time of something like four day, yet they never have them done on time.

If we can find another surgery that doesn’t have this sort of reputation, we will be moving on.
