I have suffered all my life with kidney and endocrine problems, so have had several stays at all of the hospitals within The Barts Trust. I have no complaints, have only ever come across one nurse I didn't like. My personal opinion is you guys rock and have saved my life so many times, I owe you a debt I can never repay.
However this year, you really came into your own. In February an elderly relative was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. He was treated with dignity and genuine warmth. Provision was made for me to bring him home for his final days and the same level of care was given by the community health care team. Thank you so much for helping to ease the burden of what was a very difficult time.
Before we had the funeral, my 13 year old son suddenly become very unwell. NHS direct advised that they felt he should at the very least be seen by paramedics. They arranged an ambulance. which arrived within minutes. They were calming, sympathetic and caring. They were thoughtful in their dealings with me and my son. On arrival at WXH A&E, we were seen straight away, despite it being horrendously busy due to what appeared to be an excess of bank holiday accidents. My son was given first class care, numerous tests, scans and examinations, resulting in him having his appendix removed. There was a few minor hiccups and an extra overnight stay. Again thank you, Monty was well and back to school within a week.
Three days later Monty was back in casualty. A childish prank between him and his friends on a busy tube train had resulted in Monty getting his hand caught in a metal door of a moving train.
On this particular day I was myself very unwell with tonsillitis. My older daughters instead dealt with the initial situation. They arrived at Buckhurst Hill station at the same time as the ambulance and have nothing but praise for every body involved, from the first aider at the station, the general public and the paramedics. It was by all accounts very harrowing, my son had lost an awful lot of blood and his hand was in a terrible state.
Casualty mopped his and my daughters tears cleaned up his hand and sent them straight over to plastics at The London. He had surgery the next day. He was treated like royalty as were my daughter and I while he was in theatre. Again thank you for picking up the pieces after the numerous times we have had very easily avoidable accidents, (between my children and grandchildren, you have repaired several broken bones this year. And yes we are totally aware of the ridiculous budget cuts and the increasing population you are expected to treat. From the bottom of my heart I'm sorry and thank you)
Monty again became ill in September. Again thank you to everyone from our GP, who suspected sepsis, to WXH and The London. After several stays, masses of tests and treatment he has been diagnosed with stump appendicitis, you were outstanding as Im sure you will be on his surgery to remove the stump.
"Several visits in a short space of time."
