"my visit to minor injurys unit"

on 5th october i attended minor injurys unit i saw receptionist explained i had a very sore throat and also had cut and knocked my index finger on right had and it was swollen and painful. after a reasonable wait i saw the nurse practitioner and after a good examination was given a deferred script for anti biotics, i then asked the nurse about my finger but it had not been put on by receptionist, but the nurse did examine my finger we agreed the cut was healing well but was swollen she asked me to move my finger it was painfull and hard to move, the nurse said that it was unlikely to be broken just bruised and swollen, that put my mind at ease and i left happy with the treatment i received. my finger continued to be swollen and painful but i just thought it needed time to heal after four weeks from initially knocking and cutting it i decided to go to the weymouth walk in centre where it was thought there could be something in my finger so an xray was done and showed that my finger was broken now have an appointment at dch fracture clinic to find out what needs to be done to rectify this and i hope that it can be put right.

Dear Sir

Huge apologies for your experience of the MIU here at the Yeatman Hospital.

The Nurse who examined your finger was sure your finger was not broken. That said, on clinical examination alone we can never be a 100% certain; which is why we always recommend that our patients seek further advice if the symptoms persist; which is what happened.

It might be helpful to explain that there are strict safety regulations related to exposure to radiation and Clinicians are advised that where possible to avoid x-raying, particularly if clinically it appears that there is no fracture.

I hope this explains the rationale for the Nurse’s decision and that you are well on the way to recovery.

I would be more than happy to discuss this scenario with you.

Please find my contact details below.

Once again please accept my sincere apology.

With best wishes

Anne Hiscock
