"Abject treatment"

About: Eccles Gateway Medical Centre

I feel I have no recourse but to complain about my treatment at the hands of the medical receptionist at Eccles Gateway last Friday.

I am being treated for prostate cancer at Christie's Hospital, Manchester and I am on a chemotherapy programme which involves intravenous injections of Docetaxal for the next three months.

As part of my treatment every three months I have to have a hormone injection, the first of which was at Salford Royal Hospital the rest to be administered at Eccles Gateway.

My injection was due on or around the 24th October, so I attended thinking that I would be attended to by a Doctor or District Nurse, this had been arranged by the consultant at Salford Royal Hospital on the 27th July, 2018.

The female at the reception counter was to say the least, rude, offensive, arrogant and incredibly insensitive to my predicament.

I told her that I had come for my injection, in front of a full waiting room she demanded to know what was up with me, I told her that it was all in my medical notes and a tad personal.

Her reply was that she didn't have my notes and once again demanded to know what was wrong with me, I told her that I was suffering from cancer and that I was being treated at Christie's, hoping that this would be enough confidential information.

Far from it, she then wanted to know what the name of the hormone injection I was having was called, I told her that I had no idea, and that it should be on my notes, she briefly flicked through them and told me the name of it, Decapeptyl .

I told her that was possibly the name of it, to which she retorted, "Well I have heard of it!"

My patience was exhausted and I told her that I wished to be dealt with by another member of staff, incredibly she said, "I refuse to talk to you, your very rude!"

I asked for her name and she told me it quite loudly, and then" that's all you need to know, and I refuse to deal with you"

This receptionist in my opinion should not be in a position of trust and confidentially with an attitude that left a lot to be desired, I was made to feel embarrassed and ridiculed.
