"Admin/follow up leaves a lot to be desired"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton)

Surgery to remove cancer from my husband’s nose in April appeared to have gone well. A few months later saw max fax surgeon again as there was a new growth through the incision scar.

At that time the admin staff were very efficient in fitting him in to a clinic but had to wait several weeks for a biopsy.

However, since the biopsy the follow up has been non existent.

I’ve called the secretary for him on 6 occasions trying to find out the results, leaving messages on her voicemail which are never returned. When I did manage to speak to her in person two weeks ago I was told it appeared the results had been reported the previous week and she would print the report and show it to the consultant but still no response from the max fax team. Phoned again yesterday and left yet another message on the secretary’s voicemail. No response. Phoned again this morning to be told she is on leave and nothing could be done until she returns next week. No one was taking messages from her phone and there was no one that could deal with my husband’s results in her absence, and I was told that in any case the consultant would not be able to ring my husband with the results due to confidentiality issues, which is completely contrary to what he was told at the time, but he had not been asked to make a follow up appointment for the results. Can’t believe a consultant cannot phone his own patient.

Was told he’d just have to wait.

What a farce. So by the time/if he eventually get the biopsy results it will be practically two months.

What a farce.

I am so sorry to read of your experiences. It must be very worrying for you both waiting for results and not being able to access them. I will get in touch with the team to support resolution of this.

Would you be able to send me your contact details to enable me to follow up? My email is Karen.Holden@tst.nhs.uk
