"Heavenly treatment on Women's Health Ward!"

About: Peterborough City Hospital / Maternity

This is the second day in which I can now use my hands to type with and so I am elated to finaly be able to give PCH the 100% praise feedback that I experienced whilst at your wonderful hospital.

From the A&E admittance even the ambulance drivers were gasping and commenting on how organised and sleek procedures were. Use of technology was evident and being put to good use everywhere. (tablets, voice activated phones, PCs.)

At all times whilst in PCH I was treated with care, respect and of interest by all staff that I came across. The observations completed in all of the departments/wards I visited were regular and timely depending on the protocol and process at the time. This would be key to diagnoses of my AOSD.

I had to use a wheel chair due to my AOSD, yet every single professional in the hospital addressed me, not talking about me to each other, looking me in the eyes and offering all that they could to make treatment, observations clear and as if we were part of a team. Knowing my BP has now meant I have come off of my BP tablets. Something my GP and I had discussed. All staff in all departments and wards listened, were polite, thoughtful as to the possible treatment of an unknown disease. Porters were timely and polite. Talking me throgh how to be wheeled safely in a chair. If they were at all late, looking for a chair, the explained the reason why.

I was particularly grateful that hand overs were not standing in front of the patients bed, talking about us as if we were not there. (Experienced in other hospitals) Each nurse who looked after me for the day came and introduced themselves, even if I already 'knew them' and they came and said hello again. Names being written on boards helped patients and staff to get on with each other without looking rude at forgetting first names.

I saw vulnerable patients with demetia, or arthritus being treated with the utmost love and care, with a smile/patience/professionalism on the face by staff, talking to them even though there may not be a response that day. Feeding patients that needed it, rather than just verbal encouragement

I had seen in other hospitals. Regardless of how testing the patient became. E.g One lady had three falls out of bed due to her own wish to be independent. Staff responded within seconds of the buzzer, protocol was followed, doctor called, obs every 30 or 15 minutes depending on whether her head had been hit. Brain scans completed asap. Reports written up by those who had seen incidents. Bed 7 would still then 30 minutes later ring the bell to ask for a cup of tea, or a visit to the toilet. Staff listened to her wish not to have a commode and patiently supported her to the toilet or brought her a cup of tea, which would mean another visit to the toilet! Patience of saints. So professional. I could write for days without fully covering how much my stay in PCH impressed me. I'll just add the food was also fab-u-lous! A part of setting me up for a healthy recovery. Thank You!
