Since my son was born he has had ongoing issues with what we thought was conjunctivitis. He had used various eye drops and antibiotics non of which cleared it. Various swabs sent away more antibiotics tried the eye never resolved. After numerous trips to the GP they agreed to refer him to the hospital to get sent despite normally referrals being done before 8 months old.
We finally got our appointments with the consultant in March during the bad son and we ventured to Falkirk on public transport. At the appointment the consultant agreed my son did indeed have a blocked tear duct but they were not able to operate until he was a year old all of which we already knew. But we were assured he would be added to the 20 week waiting list and be seen some time in August. Being a medical professional myself I had okayed the emergency annual leave with my manager as soon as we had confirmation of his date to have it operated. Within this time we had more trips to the drs in a bid to clear this eye as it was effecting him constantly being glued shut.
Shortly after his first birthday in July we received a letter saying he had being added to the 12 week waiting list. This baffled myself and my husband as we were assured he was added in March I called the waiting list to be told the clinic runs every 7 weeks!! And he was 12th on the list.
We’re in October now and after calling last week I was told we wouldn’t have a date till next year.
During this full time my son has had every individual peering in his pram commenting on how sore his eye is, I’ve seen every dr in my practice who refuse to do anymore!
