What could be improved

Today 31st January your telephone answering service collapsed and I was unable to make contact with the child ophthalmology section to trace an important referral. It is clear there were not enough staff on duty. Furthermore the system option for direct dial is not useful because you do not publish departmental telephone numbers.

We're sorry that your experience today was not a good one - our telephone service deals with literally thousands of calls being made every day and only occasionally can problems arise as the vast majority of people get through first time. It is down to individual departments to share their direct dial facility with their patients as these numbers do change from time-to-time.
