"Disappointed"

After huge amount of encouragement my husband attended the walk in last Monday feeling horrible with a terribly persistent cough. He was told to go home, take paracetamol and rest; despite expressing concern he had a 3 day old baby was told it wasn’t contagious and to come back if still there in 6weeks. Today, after a really awful week with much reluctance he attended a different walk in where they were highly concerned he had a chest infection so severe it was close to pneumonia. Totally appreciate symptoms get worse and it can be hard to tell so don’t just want to level criticism, but more sensitivity needed re men’s health around the post natal time for numerous reasons. Like a lot of people especially men they don’t bother with the Dr unless fairly sure it’s more than paracetamol will help with, so it always seemed a bit dismissive, not to mention the specifics ‘get rest’ when have 3 day old (and a lively toddler). Also the babies & toddlers he’s been around after being told it was not contagious. Big impact on whole family & missed opportunity to be treated sooner even if need for antibiotics wasn’t obvious 1 week ago. On the plus side he was seen quite quickly and the staff were friendly.
