Was sent to Guys by my dentist as I was told what was required needed to be done in hospital. I had to reschedule my appointment but did not get an appointment reminder and letter like I have always got at other hospitals.
I had to wait a while to be seen and once called in there appeared to be a shortage of nurses as I had to wait a while with an apologetic dentist. The dental room is a bit of a production line with lots of people being treated in the same room. Privacy is not brilliant and I was asked questions about my health and HIV status where others could hear. Had I had health issues this would have made me feel uncomfortable.
The dental checkup that I got was very thorough. I was sent for an X Ray, the wait was short and the staff nice and friendly, much more so than the staff in the dental checkup room.
After the x Ray I had a long wait to be called back into the checkup room. I was not impressed with the bedside manner of the male consultant dentist. He did not introduce himself and talked with the dentist about my xray, I felt like an object rather than a patient.
The theme of lack of privacy continued as whilst waiting in the dental chair I could hear another patients consultation. After she left the consultant was dictating a letter about her case. I am surprised that with GDPR this is allowed to happen.
Overall my experience was OK and I guess the high density setup enables more people to be seen more quickly but I didn't find my visit the best. I was told by the consultant that my case was too minor and so I assume I am being referred back to my dentist. It was not overly clear to me what happens next.
One last note the views across London from Guys are amazing.
