"Unexpected Hospital Stay"

About: York Hospital / Older people's healthcare

I came to York to take part in the marathon and was having a great time when 1.5k before the end my leg broke.

I was taken to A&E by ambulance (thanks to the ambulance men, they were great) and was assessed, x-rayed, re-assessed and on a ward within a couple of hours. Surgery followed the next morning and I was on my way home on Wednesday evening.

My stay was short but everyone I encountered was friendly, helpful and professional and made a fairly traumatic incident far less concerning for me and my family.

The ward (25) was very clean. All the staff encountered were lovely and confidence boosting. I observed how the other patients were treated and it was with patience, respect and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble. If I had to be in hospital I was certainly in the right one!

Thank you.

Oh my gosh - what a nightmare way to end the marathon. I hope someone whizzed you round the last 1.5k on the back of a bike so you could get your goody bag?!

Jokes aside, I'm so glad to hear that once you were here you were well looked after and seen to quickly. It sounds as though our staff were putting you at ease and living our Trust Values, putting all of their patients at the heart of what they were doing and treating everyone with dignity and respect.

I'll make sure the comments are passed back to the ward, I hope they can share your post with the domestic team as well, as it's so good of you to note the cleanliness of the ward, too.

A broken leg must be incredibly painful and a debilitating injury for someone active like yourself - I hope you are recovering well and that you can get back to running soon enough.

Best wishes, and take care!
