"I came away with incredible admiration"

About: Borders General Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I was admitted to the Borders General Hospital Ward 4 in the fist week of October and spent the next ten days as an in patient. During this time I was looked after with absolute professionalism and the care was delivered with compassion and kindness from all levels of staff.

I came away with incredible admiration for the way the staff dealt with all patients. During my stay there were some very difficult situations with some of my fellow patients and I never witnessed any temper or frustration - just kindness and patience.

Hi John

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on ward 4. The team there are true professionals with patients at the absolute centre of everything they do. I'll share this story with them today.

Hope you have now fully recovered.

Best wishes

Gareth

Dear john7law,

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know of your experience in Ward 4. I'm sorry that your health necessitated a longer period in hospital but I am delighted that your experience was as positive as it could be!

I do not usually work in Ward 4 however over the last 2 weeks, there have been some consultant shortages and as such, I have been looking after patients there. My experience has been tremendous with multiple examples of exemplary care amongst both the nursing and medical staff. SCN Bell who runs the ward does so with compassion and empathy both towards her patients and her staff, whilst keeping a strong awareness of the pressures elsewhere in the system. And all of this is in the context of a ward with acutely unwell patients and the pressures associated with this!

So like you, I have great admiration for the staff on the ward but I think that your experience and kind words will be far more impactful as someone who has been the recipient of their kind, professional care. And I'd like to assure you that, like Gareth, I will make sure that the staff are aware of your experience which I know will be very positive feedback indeed!

Thanks again for taking the time to let us know of your experience and I trust that you are now recovering well!

Best wishes,

Lynn
