"Praise for the Cardiac Rehab team"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology

(as the patient),

After my recent heart attack I was referred to the Cardiac Rehab classes at Hairmyres. I wasn't sure what to expect but was soon put at ease by all the team led by Donah and also by my fellow patients. All were inducted and given individual advice and targets depending on their own stage of recovery, stent, by pass, medication etc.

The reasons behind the rehab programme were explained at all stages and the overall journey that we would all take long term to progress to a normal healthy life. Excercise was gradually increased in intensity as the team monitored each individual's progress. Their was absolutely no pressure put on anyone to move up a level unless they felt comfortable and the team were in agreement. Patients were constantly monitored throughout and team took proactive action to reduce or stop activity for any indivual who was struggling or perhaps felt uncomfortable.

Cardia Rehab nurse was always in attendence to give advice or to take BP or indeed refer to clinic. Every week we had a short talk from, pharmacist, dietician, physio, previous heart attack patient, SLC activage, Cardiac Rehab Nurse. These were all interesting and well presented with ample opportunity for all to ask further question. The atmosphere at the class was relaxed but focussed on the outcome of enabling patients to become responsible with support for their own fitness recovery. I cannot praise enough all the team involved as they all played their part in making the sessions fun, safe and focussed.
