"Very disappointed with the Pediatrician in..."

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

We are very frustrated after our visit to the emergency department last night. We had to take our 7yr old daughter to emergency because she has had constant stomach pain over the last 48h. She suffers from an underlying allergic illness that causes the pain. We had been giving her the medications prescribed by her GP and specialists but we haven’t been able to control her pain.

She was seen by the after hours GP who was quite helpful and pushed for her to be seen by the consultant. Our frustration began when she was under the consultant care, first it took ages for her to be seen. Then the Dr who saw her was very dismissive of my daughter’s pain. Even suggesting that it was all in her head.

She even questioned the opinion and qualifications of the team of specialists that had been treating my daughter in a world class hospital in L.A. just a few months ago. Apparently my child being unable to walk because of stomach pain wasn’t a real problem and her history over the past 6 months is worthless according to this consultant.

At the end, we were sent home with a prescription for over the counter medicine which does basically nothing to control my daughter’s pain. We were also advised to wait for the appointment with the gastroenterologist clinic which is weeks away, in the meantime I will have to watch my child folded in pain and unable to walk for days just because is “not quite an emergency”
