"Visiting a patient at St Bernards Hospital"

About: St Bernard's Wing

(as a friend),

I visited my friend/ partner in hospital this week.

She cannot locate either her hearing aids or glasses both are very important, especially the former, since she has been diagnosed with dementia and hearing clearly is of the utmost importance. The nurses were unable to find them.

I think these items should be securely located and possibly when a patient goes to bed the nurse knows where items like this are. They may be found in due course.

Also I asked to speak to a doctor for an update. This again did not happen. One reason I wanted to speak a doctor was because the day before my visit, My partner's relative was contacted by a doctor and asked if she would give permission for a sedative to be used on her, because she was agitated and wanting to go home.

I wanted to find out what medication she was on, I could not get this information from the nurses.

Dear carer (Saturn5)

Thank you for raising your concerns on Care Opinion.

I wanted to let you know that we have seen your story and due to confidentiality reasons will respond to you in person. Consent for information sharing is very important us, therefore on your next visit to the ward please ask to speak to myself the ward manager or in my absence to a clinical team leader. We are sorry that a patient has lost property and will look into this as a matter of urgency; we are exploring ways to have secure storage in patient’s rooms.

Thank you

Regards

Raj
