I visited Moorfields Vitro Retinal clinic at 10.15am on 16th October 2018. The first thing I noticed was the smell of stale urine. It seemed to be coming from the floor and on some of the seating. I have been an outpatient for both the Glaucoma clinics and the VR clinic for many years and have always noticed in the past how clean and fresh smelling they seemed. On progressing downstairs to the Medical Imaging department the smell there was of urine. I was asked to follow the technician and to take a seat along with several other patients outside the scanning room. The seating there smelt strongly of urine and I realized as I was seated in a soft 'high seat' chair that it was covered in dried urine. I work in the care sector so am familiar with this.
I did not comment to staff about this problem, but on leaving the hospital I realized that my clothing (trousers, jacket) smelt of stale urine. I was embarrassed that I smelled like this and had to endure the long train journey back to Buckinghamshire. All items of clothing had to be washed and I have had to think long and hard before posting this review. I do hope this isn't a result of 'cost cutting' it lets down a first class hospital along with the brilliant and gifted people who work within its walls.
